Joseph and Mary (Gutierrez) Jackson, of Pierpont Ohio, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 24, 2019. They were united in marriage at Saint Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Manitou Beach, Michigan, on Oct. 24, 1959. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Gerald Loewen. Following a honeymoon trip to Tahquamenon Falls in the Upper Peninsula, the couple returned to Hudson, Michigan, where they made their home. Eventually, the couple moved to Texas where Joe was hired as a chemical engineer. Mary, who had previously worked as a home health nurse, was fortunate to stay at home and raise their children. After a few years, they settled in Pierpont, Ohio, as Joe began a long career at the Lubrizol Corporation as a chemical engineer. Joe retired from Lubrizol after working for the company for 47 years.
The couple was blessed with six children. Patrick who died in infancy, Dan Jackson of Pierpont, Bob (Lisa) Jackson of Pierpont, John Jackson of Pierpont, Celeste (Mark) Fenton of Pierpont and Sarah (Dave) Bogardus of Andover. Joe and Mary have 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The couple celebrated by attending a special anniversary mass at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown, with Bishop George Murray officiating. Afterward, along with family members, they enjoyed a dinner held in their honor.
